Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup Guinness beer
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until soft.
  4. Stir in peas, tomato paste, beef broth, and Guinness. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender.
  6. Drain the potatoes and mash with milk, butter, cheddar, salt, and pepper.
  7. Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish.
  8. Top with the mashed potatoes and smooth the surface.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use lentils instead of meat.
  • You can add other vegetables like corn or bell peppers.
