- 1 pound ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup Guinness beer
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned.
- Add onion, carrots, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until soft.
- Stir in peas, tomato paste, beef broth, and Guinness. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender.
- Drain the potatoes and mash with milk, butter, cheddar, salt, and pepper.
- Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish.
- Top with the mashed potatoes and smooth the surface.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, use lentils instead of meat.
- You can add other vegetables like corn or bell peppers.
- Make the dish ahead and reheat before serving.
